Rick’s Cabinet Tree wins Best Platinum award

Rick Blanco, CKD

Beauty and practicality, qualities that are inseparable in a well designed kitchen, made Rick’s Cabinet Tree the recipient of the Builder’s Association of South Florida (BASF) 2008 "Florida’s Best Platinum Award" for best kitchen in a remodeling conversion of a custom single family home.

Rick Blanco, owner of Rick’s Cabinet Tree in Miami Lakes, has devoted many years to the design of prize-winning kitchens. This year, Blanco decided to direct his focus to the fundamentally strong remodeling market.

When time came to enter the BASF "BEST" competition, Blanco entered one of his remodeling projects — the Trattler’s residence in the Pinecrest area, a remodeling/conversion by Hollub Homes, Inc.

In this kitchen, contemporary Shaker-style wood cabinets with double stacked lighted glass doors reaching the ceiling substituted the cabinetry that came with the original home. The island was enlarged to accommodate a sitting/eating area. The sink was moved to the island to create a kitchen triangle that would facilitate food preparation. A custom designed desk was concealed behind retractable doors and equipped with interior pigeon holes, file drawers and roll out shelves, to accommodate the client’s request for a message center and space to contain a computer and files.

Brushed stainless steel handles were used to match the appliances and further enhance the kitchen’s aesthetics.

In acknowledging the BEST award, Blanco said, "For me it is always a challenge and a pleasure to make a space accommodate the needs of a client and to make that space as attractive as it can be. Anytime I can do that, I feel successful, but it is an honor to be recognized, especially by the members of my own industry. I feel very grateful."
